    I Want My A-J-E! (Update #2):

I just found out that KCET Channel 28 is now broadcasting 30-minute segments of Al Jazeera English on weekdays at 11AM, 4PM, and 11PM. And the Al Jazeera English web site (http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/) has a button where you can send an e-mail message to your cable provider by plugging in your zip code.

“The workshops form the core of a day-long event filled with panel sessions, speakers, and networking,” said Sylvia Moore, a founding member. “I’ve been amazed at both the quality and variety of workshops we’ve had over the years.”

To give you an idea of what you might present, last year’s event featured these topics:

    • Citizen Journalism on the Net, or UB the News
    • The Fair Use Doctrine and Creative Commons
    • Communicating Network Neutrality
    • Subject not Object – Crisis Reporting with Respect
    • Media Literacy – The Basics
    • Covering Los Angeles from the Ground Up
    • Bridging the Abyss – The San Diego move toward citizen journalism
    • Keeping it Legal – Learning to Protect Yourself in the Interactive Media Space
    • Using Social Media to Distribute Your News – Lessons from Brave New Films
    • Hate Speech and Bad Stories – Real World Implications and a Real Call to Action
    • Spanning the Digital Divide with Mobile and Video Technology
    • Organizing Earned Media Campaigns to Make a More Progressive

Please contact us with questions about the event and especially if you have an interesting workshop topic, but aren’t sure if it will fit.

The Los Angeles Media Reform Group focuses on holding news outlets accountable to the public interest and encouraging community members to create their own media, and to be critical consumers of the mass media. Its next annual summit will be Saturday, February 26th, 2011, at Occidental College. More info at: http://lamediareform.org/mediasummit2011
